Artist Statement
Wesley Ericson (b. 2001, Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American artist and muralist who predominantly works in oil and acrylic across a range of scales. Through a somatic, process-based practice informed by trauma-responsive care, community engagement, travel, and studio work, Ericson analyzes information, using painting as a filter for interpreting, navigating, and integrating causality and its effects. The artist learns and mourns distinctions between sounds, what happens between events themselves, and what melts away like footprints in sand: how imagination, memory, expectation, and emotion alter understanding. Ericson paints accepting uncertainty, allowing mundane occurrences to become vessels for temporary experiences that drop anchor in psychological territory.
